FAQ’s

Question: Why does my number on the waitlist move up? For example, I just checked my number yesterday and it was 50 and now it is 59. Answer: Waitlist numbers fluctuate from time to time because applicants may update their application by adding a local preference, i.e., Disabled, Victim of Domestic Violence, Employed (6months), or Elderly. When an application is updated, the applicant’s position will change to give them a priority for housing assistance. In most cases, the fluctuation in numbers will not significantly affect your application or the time in which you are drawn from the waitlist.

Question: What information can I update using the Applicant Portal?
Answer: Applicants will be able to update mailing/email addresses, phone numbers, income information, select preferences and add/remove family member.

Question: How do I update my preferences?
Answer: Preferences must be submitted in person, mail, or fax. All preferences must have the change of information form attached and you must provide documentation for the preference you are claiming. Please find the change of information form here. Applicants will not be able to submit preferences on the Applicant Portal.

Question: My position on the waitlist is #6,452, how long will it take for me to receive a voucher?
Answer: The wait for rental assistance can take years, we based your position on the waitlist by preferences. The more preference points an applicant has, the higher the applicant’s place on the waiting list. Please refer this Preference Explanation for guidance.

Question: What does it mean when my application reaches the top of the waitlist?
Answer: When your application reaches the top of the waitlist, it simply means you are number 1 on the list and will be notified by mail only. Once vouchers become available, an eligibility packet will be mailed to you to determine your eligibility for the HCV program.

Question: How will I be notified when I’m selected from the waitlist?
Answer: All applicants selected from the waitlist will be mailed an eligibility packet to complete with CRHA; this packet will be mailed to the most recent address on file.

Question: When will CRHA be mailing more letters?
Answer: Update letters are mailed periodically to notify applicants and request applicants to report any changes in their information or if the applicant wishes to remain on the waitlist. There is not a specific date when letters are mailed. Please be reminded that update letters are mailed to the address that we currently have listed in the system, and it is important for you to provide to CRHA any updated changes in your mailing address by updating your information in the Applicant portal.

Question: I am homeless are there any resources you provide?
Answer: CRHA does not provide emergency housing. If you are experiencing a Housing Crisis, please contact The Housing Crisis hotline at 757.587.4202 or you may go on our website to download a copy of our Community Resource List at www.crhava.org
