This program provides emergency rehabilitation assistance through grant funding to qualified homeowners who have an annual gross income at or below 80% of the area median income, as established by the U.S. Department of HUD.  Any improvements, adaptations or modifications, which are not of cosmetic nature, and are required to remove imminent health and safety hazards or barriers to habitability are eligible such as mechanical, plumbing and electrical repairs, structural and energy conservation repairs and/or wheelchair ramps, railings, accessible kitchen cabinets and other improvements required by physically disabled or elderly households.  The maximum grant per eligible household is $10,000.


This program provides financial assistance to Chesapeake homeowners to correct exterior housing code violations identified and cited by the City's Environmental Division of the Department of Inspections.   To be eligible for a grant the head of household must be elderly (62 or older) or the gross annual household income must be at or below 80% of area median income.  Interest free forgivable loans are available to eligible homeowners located in a flood zone. The maximum grant/loan per household is $6,000.
