November 17, 2020

Governor Northam announced that Virginia’s Community Colleges received $27 million to help current and future students impacted by COVID-19 cover the costs of tuition and fees in fields that will lead to careers in their community.   The initiative, Re-Employing Virginians (REV), will provide one-time education vouchers of up to $3,000 to register in a qualifying full-time workforce program and up to $1,500 to register part-time or in a short-term training program. Six (6) Chesapeake Public Schools will be offering Grab-n-Go lunches during the school closure beginning March 17th - March 27th from 10 AM - 11:30 AM.  Students must be present to receive meals.

In order to protect the safety of staff and guests during the COVID-19 outbreak, CRHA offices will be closed to the general public effective March 16th - March 27th.

CRHA Awarded $167,440 to promote Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS).  The funding will enable CRHA to continue to employ three full-time FSS Coordinators.

On September 18, 2019, Chesapeake's first Homeless Resource Center opened at 1468 South Military Highway, Suite 100.  The ribbon-cutting ceremony included remarks from the Honorable Mayor Rick West; Mr. James Baker, Chesapeake City Manager; Ms. Maresa Driver, Chair of the Human Services Advisory Board; and Mr. Justin Brooks, Executive Director for Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

Powell, Jr., a 21-year CRHA Board Commissioner and 50-year community advocate took this year's prize.

CRHA's Board of Commissioners has selected Justin Brooks to replace long-term serving Brenda Willis as Executive Director.  Mr. Brooks will officially take the reins in January 2019.
